Poetry: literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.

Poetry is a way to express joy, happiness, but also melancholy feelings. It can move people in a deep and spiritual way. Rhyme schemes are commonly found in most poems. A rhyme scheme is the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse. It enhances the writing and the story.

Another well-known term found in most poems is the meter. A meter is the measured arrangment of sounds/beats in a poem, including the poet's placement of emphasis and the number of syllables per line.

The following pages contain two poems, written by famous authors: Edgar Allen Poe and Walt Whitman.
